Central Waste Recycling Plant Instructed by SFP
Labelled as one of the more challenging and complex cases for the SFP Group, Simon and Daniel Plant were appointed joint administrators in the case of a recycling plant based in Liverpool. This family run business was set up in the 1960’s specialising in waste disposal and recycling. Despite a turnover circa £10 million and a significant trading history, the company experienced financial difficulties resulting in the presentation of a winding up petition. The SFP Groups’ Simon Plant and Daniel Plant were brought in to not only help with the company’s financial position, but also to manage the issue of over 600 tonnes of waste which was subject to a remedial notice issued by the Environment Agency (EA).
The SFP group worked with the EA to address the removal of the waste from the site, which had attracted the concern of local residents. Simon said: “The legitimate concerns of local residents had to be considered and we worked closely with the EA and local parties to ensure the waste was cleared with the minimum of additional disruption and the maximum care.”
The EA was kept fully appraised of the work of the SFP Group throughout the administrative process and the substantial efforts of SFP to clean the site quickly and safely has been acknowledged. The direct and prompt actions of SFP has enabled a positive outcome and avoided a more severe environmental concern.
Simon added that: “The recycling plant could not fund the removal of the waste and accordingly, the SFP Group spent significant sums instructing a recognised contractor to attend to it. It was a complex scenario but ultimately, the interests of public health needed to prevail and I am pleased to have played such a significant role bringing an end to such a wide reaching concern.” During the waste clearance process, several interested parties were in attendance, and a sale of the business was subsequently agreed and completed in May 2015.
